It’s frozen!!

Computers and devices sometimes freeze. No matter what brand or type of device it is, it could happen. So what do you do if your iPhone for example freezes and won’t do anything?

For devices that have a battery, most cell phones and laptops, you can simply take the battery out. This should only be done when you are sure the device is frozen and it is not trying to recover. This is not really good for the operating system and unsaved work will most likely be lost.

If you are using a desktop computer you can power it down by holding the power button down or unplugging it. Like I said before this is not good for the OS and unsaved work could be lost. Sometimes holding the power button down will work on phones and laptops also.

For an iPhone, there is not a removable (well easily) battery that can be taken out. If your iPhone freezes try to lock it by pressing the power button on the top. Sometimes an app will not be working but the phone will lock. When you unlock it sometimes that fixed it, but sometimes you can not even lock it. In this case you will need to do a hard reset. To do this you need to hold the power button and the home button at the same time. It will take some time, about 10 seconds. When you see the Apple logo appear you need to release both.

Other devices that do not have a removable battery will have a way to hard reset it. Most of the time it is done by holding the power button down for a few seconds, sometimes up to 30 seconds. If a device is frozen and will not power off by holding the power button for up to 30 seconds you will need to do some research for that specific device, there may be a two button combination that needs to be pressed. A quick Google search such as “my kindle fire is frozen” should get you back in working condition.
